I just came back from a DVD demo done by Meridian at Harvey's in Greenwich CT. I thought I'd share my impressions of the demo, store, etc..
I was in NYC on Saturday, took someone's advice and stopped at the Virgin Mega Store to pick up a few DVDs. Got back home last night and watched both Eraser and Goldeneye.
Based on some of the comments I've read on this Newsgroup I was prepared for the worst. Boy, was I in for a shock! I never saw a single glitch, artifact or pixilation defect of any kind. Not one. The color on both discs was the best I have ever seen on my system. The menu system was lots of fun and really adds to the experience.
Just so you know, my system includes a 120 inch screen, Sony VPH1251 projector,Pioneer Elite DVL 90 and Faroudja line doubler. If there was a defect to be seen this system would have revealed it. For example,in Eraser there are several scenes in rooms with vertical blinds which are normally a torture test on laserdisc(forget about VHS tapes). I saw no dot crawl whatsoever--none.
I am convinced. This is a fine system. I only hope the other studios get their act together.
If you have not seen DVD yet you owe it to yourself to take a serious look.Based on my experience I must seriously question the negative comments about DVD quality which were expressed on this Newsgroup.
