Well lets get the disappointment part over with first...this movie requires you to switch sides halfway through. As such, only the widescreen version of the film is on the disc, and it is spread over side A & B. Why dual-layering wasn't used while it was on Species, I don't know, and I'm kind of upset about it. I already had Goodfellas on 2 laserdiscs that required me to swap discs, and now I have to flip sides. Yes, I'm a little ticked off about that, but if you want to live on the edge of technology, I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Now for the good...The picture clarity was incredible. If anyone has ever dared watch the VHS version of Goodfellas where the trio is digging the ditch and burying the body in that reddish hue of the car-light, they know what video hell looks like, can you even see what's going on in that scene? Well now watching in DVD, its like seeing the movie on the big screen again, clarity was amazing.

In the early scenes where Ray Liotta's character is still a youngster, the sepia over-tones of the flashback come through in vivid crystal clear color.

Sound was excellent as expected, but I couldn't perceive that huge a difference from my Goodfellas LD.

Overall, I'm very happy with my DVD purchase. Today i'll buy sleepers and review that soon!

More as they arrive...
