Sony Dual Analog Pad
Review from the Net
Device: SONY Analog Controller MODEL # : SCPH-1150 System : PLAYSTATION Available Now? : JAPAN-YES / USA-currently Import only. Price : $35-40 Initial thoughts by RaysurX The "new" SONY analog controller was released to coincide with the release of TOBAL #2 in Japan. This new controller has the same design and feel of the current controller with the addition of two ANALOG directional "thumb" joysticks, Bigger and easier to find RIGHT 2 and LEFT 2 shoulder buttons, larger hand controller grips and the most significant addition... FORCE FEEDBACK!. FORCE FEEDBACK works in the following way: For example.. if you are playing RALLY CROSS (ANALOG + FEEDBACK supported) with this new controller and you drive over a jump and land really hard!! Well.. this new controller will not only give you better control with its NEW analog joysticks but when you land really hard or hit something.. the controller will shake 'rumble rumble rumble' in your hands... YES SHAKE/VIBRATE! The sensation can range in severity from very mild to very strong, the strong feedback sensation is similar to holding 3 pagers/beepers in your hands and all three vibrating at once. BUZZZ!!!! The rumbling/vibration is created with mechanisms or motors that are located in the new larger controller grips. Also in fighting games such as the upcoming American or current Japanese versions of TOBAL #2 and BUSHIDO BLADE, if your opponent lands a solid uppercut through your face… you'll definitely feel it through your controller! !! BUZZZ..!! The new ANALOG thumb joysticks are well constructed, responsive and ingeniously nestled between the standard directional buttons and the X, square, circle buttons making them easily accessible yet not obstructive. This controller can be used with ALL SONY PLAYSTATION games but the ANALOG and FORCE FEEDBACK features are only available in supported games. Currently only 2 Japanese (TOBAL #2 , BUSHIDO BLADE) and 1 American game (RALLY CROSS) support the ANALOG + FORCE FEEDBACK features of this new controller. But keep in mind that this new controller doesn't have to replace your other controllers on the contrary, its actually 4 controllers in one! ANALOG, DUAL ANALOG, Normal Digital, and FORCE FEEDBACK! This controller also supports games that were configured for the "very bulky" SONY DUAL ANALOG FLIGHT STICKS. Games like BOGEY DEAD 6 etc. etc. Unfortunately the ANALOG thumb joysticks do not work with ALL "NeGcon" compatible games. With the exception of NEED FOR SPEED 2, all other NeGcon games that I have tested thus far (Wipeout XL, all RIDGE RACER games, Formula 1 etc) have not supported this NEW controller's analog signals. No batteries are required for this controller as the power necessary is supplied directly from the Playstation via the controller cable unlike a competitors NxxxxxxO 64's "RUMBLE PAK" :-) Bottom line: This is a well constructed, well designed and durable controller that will be a fine addition to any avid gamer's arsenal of Playstation peripherals. The force feedback is the main selling point of this controller and I found it to be very entertaining and an enhancement to my gaming experience.
