I bought the hint book and the code to fight against the CPU Akuma is as 
follows, select any character other than Akuma.  Then instantly press and hold 
L2, R2 and X simutaneously until you see Akuma.

Play as M.Bison:

   1.Go to the random box and hold L2 
   2.Press left,left,down,down,left,down,down 
   3.Press square and triangle or O and X for the other  
    color. 

Play as Akuma:

   1.Go to the random box and hold L2 
   2.Press left,left,left,down,down,down 
   3.Then press square and triangle or O and X. 

Play as Dan:

   1.Press and Hold L2 
   2.Go to the random box and press tri,square,X,O,tri or 
     do it in the reverse motion for the other color. 

Fight against Dan:

   1. After winning a match, Hold Up + L2 + R2 until the 
      winning words come up then release. 
   2. Repeat for five matches and your sixth will be Dan. 

Get the Dramatic Battle (Ryu & Ken vs. Bison) to appear 
in the options screen

Beat the game on 6 stars withleft changing characters. 
Save it after you get it so it stays in permanently.

Once you put in the codes for Dan, M. Bison, or Akuma in Street
Fighter Alpha, you can keep selecting them by going down to the
Random Select box and keep hitting down.  When you hit down you
will go through your choices.
