SANTA MONICA, Calif. (May 11, 1995) -- Unlike traditional racing games, Sony Imagesoft's ESPN Extreme Games aligns players to compete against each other in true 3-D worlds using the hottest new sports gear or ³vehicles² (i.e., in-line skates, mo untain bikes, skateboards and street luges) over the most treacherous terrain. Sony Imagesoft plans to introduce the PlayStation version near the launch of the PlayStation and the PC CD-ROM version by Christmas.
³ESPN Extreme Games is a sports game with a twist,² said Peter Dille, director, marketing, Sony Imagesoft. ³'Extreme' sports are hugely popular activities among our demo. So much so that ESPN2 is airing 'Extreme Games.' We've taken some creative liberties with Extreme Games to create a very unique and very fun game.²
Choosing from six unique courses from around the world, and from four difficulty settings, players can either compete alone or go for head-to-head racing action with an opponent using the split-screen mode. Players can also battle their opponents by pun ching, kicking and jumping while they race. The six race courses include San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, South America, Rome, Hollywood and Utah. Each course features its own ³extremes,² taking players on an incredible journey through unique geogra phic scenarios.
ESPN Extreme Games features extensive play value for the gamer. Each ³vehicle² has its strengths and special moves that makes it a better choice for a certain terrain. For example, street luge is good for smooth downhill racing, while the mou ntain bike proves the best for hills and rough terrain. Players can choose to race a single race or try to complete a ³season.² By completing a season, players can earn money to buy better equipment in the "pro shop" and compete in m ore races. Other hidden bonus levels are also included in ESPN Extreme Games.
Cutting-edge music enhances this hard-hitting, fast-paced game which will be complemented by special digital sound effects and voice-overs by ESPN announcers.
