Andretti Racing
PlayStation Review from the Net
The quality of the manual is very good; clear and concise. The game starts with a really cool EA Sports intro that shows a satalite beaming down a signal to a TV. The option menu is easy to use with a choice of 1or 2 players, car selection (CART or Nascar), track selection etc... Then comes another menu; choice of qualift, race, car options (change setup; including tires, wing, gearbox etc...) Then comes the game itself. This is no arcade game like Ridge Racer or Need for Speed!!!. This is a true racing simulation!! You cannot just start racing, you really need to get to grips with the cars and tracks. The tracks a VERY twisty (even the easy ones), and there is no such thing as bulldozing your way through a tight corner or chicane. Hit anything you should'nt and it's curtains as far as race or qualifying times go. The game is not very forgiving!!!. As for the gameplay. There is alot of depth to this game, something to keep you coming back for. The graphics are OK. The cars are detailed and any damage is fairly well represented (losing wings on CART and front/back car damage on Nascar). The rest of the graphics especially the tracks are average. Some crash scenes have very bad draw-in. The best way to describe the graphics would be - very Ridge Racerish!!. The in-car sound is not so good. The CART sound actually gets annoying very quicky. The NASCAR sound is better with a fairly realistic representation of the cars deep sounding engines. This is not meant to be a full review but a quick sum up of what I've seen so far. And so far I would rate it 85%. A good addition to my PSX collection, but not as good as I'd hoped. From alot of what I've read in the magazines and on newsgroups F1 looks like it will be better than Andretti. Comments and flames welcome. Brian King of Manic Miner
