Doom
Review from the Net

My friend and I spent 5 hours over the weekend playing Co-op doom for
PS. One thing I think people have neglected to mention regarding this
mode on a PS vs. on a PC over a modem, is the ablility to talk.

Like for example,

We had the TV's set up next to one another so we could both see each
others screen. So when we would come up to a door I would say
something like "O.K. you take the left side while I take the right, or
You nail the imps while I chainsaw the rhinos." It made it much more
realistic as compared to running over a modem where you would have to
type out chat commands. ( unless you have 2 phone lines). It was so
much fun, sometimes we would split up and he would enter a room filled
with baddies, while I was safe somewhere else. He would start
screaming for help while I would be laughing my ass off trying to find
the room he was in so I could help. What a game!

Tried PSX Doom with the link-up cable last night. Initial
impressions:

Runs very smooth, as smooth as one-playe mode. No slowdown at all.

Both players are green. No red/brown/green/blue. Simply green.

I found the new music sort of inappropriate for Deathmatch. All of
the creepy tunes didn't add to the fun of the hunt. They actually
served to kill any jovial mood we had. So, in Deathmatch, we simply
shut off the Doom music, changed the reciever to CD, and listened to
livlier tunes.

Also, no monsters in Deathmatch. No option exists to include monsters
in Deathmatch.

And something I've never noticed in Doom before - when your man
explodes after being hit with a rocket of a BFG blast, the little face
in the center of the stat screen explodes as well. Quite bloody.

Co-op mode lets you choose the level, 1 to 55. The new music is
appropriate here, as you're playing the game proper, monsters and all.
You want that atmosphere of dread.
