Jet Moto
PlayStation Review from the Net

Checked out Jet Moto tonight. I was eagerly awaiting this product
knowing it was the work of SingleTrac. After spending some time playing
it this evening, I must say - this could probably be SingleTrac’s best
work to date. It’s hard to believe, seeing Twisted Metal 2 has already
been winning the hearts of many TM fans, but you must experience this
unique racer to believe it. I’ve only been fooling with the ‘single
race’ mode, just to get acquainted with the track layouts, and although
there are twelve courses, you only have access to three of the courses
which are displayed on a fancy spin dial (lots of nice touches like
this can be found throughout the game). It’s nice to have something to
work for, rather than the game designer(s) throwing all the tracks at
you at once.

The three courses I’ve seen so far are "JoyRide", "BlackWater Falls" and
"Suicide Swamp". What makes Jet Moto unusual is your vehicle which
looks somewhat like a Jet-Ski, yet plows through all types of terrain
BESIDES water. The basic idea (from what I can see so far) is to stay
inside the floating Buoys (red always on your right), and follow the
floating arrow (and course signs). The tracks (from what I’ve seen so
far) are simply outrageous. Joy Ride is modeled around an ocean layout,
with waves, tunnels , and what looks like disassembled tracks from a
highway which are stacked at various elevations. BlackWater Falls
features a muddy/grassy lake with many trees (nasty), hair-raising
turns, and a huge watery drop though the falls that feels like your
diving down into an endless well. The effect is mind-boggling. Suicide
Swamp is insanity; one turn has you suddenly up against your opponents
who are going in the opposite direction (which is how it got its name I
assume). I can only imagine what waits on the other 9 tracks. Oh yeah,
and some of the collisions are startling! At one point, I flew off one
of the highway ramps and flew into a tree as the camera scaled out
showing my driver getting shot way out of the Jet-Moto like a
cannonball.

The control takes some getting use to, but overall seems very tight, and
get this - before each race begins, you’ll get an overview of the course
layout, showing where all GRAPPLE points are located. Yep, as you race
around each course, you can lock onto an electronic post with your
space-age Grappling hook. This hook is some kind of translucent beam
that looks like something out of Star Wars, and allows you to pull off
very tight turns.

From the opening music (which would fit quite well in a sequel to Pulp
Fiction) to the beautiful water reflective tricks, Jet-Moto is first
class. There are many other features such as a full circuit racing &
elimination rounds, but it’s about 12:30, and I want to get some more
rounds in before the night is over (never enough hours in a day I tell
ya’). - - Joe
