Kileak: The DNA Imperative
Review from the Net
THE GOOD First of all let me say the the graphics are well done and above average for a 3-D shooter. They are more detailed than other games of the genere such as Robotica for the Saturn and even the almighty DOOM! Several factors give Kileak a sense of greater realism than its competitors. The first being that all the rooms actually have something in them (furniture, computer termials, etc.) thus, making you feel that you're in a base that actual PEOPLE once occupied. Second, the hazing feature is quite nice as well. If you don't know what hazing in a game means (and it has nothing to do with fraternities!) read on, if you do skip this part. Hazing, simply explained, is when you walk down a corridor or into a room and the closer you get to main objects the more detailed they become. O.K. now we can move on! The enemies are all well drawn/rendered and have a good amount of detail to them and there are plenty of them to kill! Maybe the highest quality and most impressive part of the game are the cenimatics, these just kick ass!!! I can't reveal the cenimatics to you cause it would spoil the game but trust me if you check-out the game for no other featue--this is the one! The sound in Kileak is pretty good (but this should be a no-brainer since we're running a CD here folks!) but the "battery low" announcement can get pretty damn annoying! And lets not forget about the number of levels here, 14 count 'em 14 levels of pure destruction here and all of them are pretty long. As with all games of the DOOM! fashion there are hidden rooms, weapons (lots of 'em and they all jam!) and sometimes multiple challenges. Kileak has them all and then some! THE BAD The control on this game is HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! and then there's even some horrible on top of that. This is the single biggest problem in the game for a couple of reasons. One, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to dodge enemy fire. Unlike DOOM! where getting out of the way is quite simple, in Kileak you're gonna take hits--LOTS of them!!! Also some peoplel might find that having to buy a memory card to store your saved game on is a downfall (since it costs around $30 bucks more) Finally, I have played this game up to level 11 and I'm pretty burnt on it! It takes a while to cruise through each level (between 45-60 mins for me) and after awhile the game starts to loose its appeal. THE BOTTOM LINE If you like: lots of destruction, good graphics, EXTREME challange (and can live with horrible control)--buy it, you'll love it! MY RATING (1-10) 6 --STIX--
