Review from the Net
After just picking up loaded today, I can assure you, that this is one
game that actually meets, if not exceeds, the hype surrounding it!
The plot: In a nutshell...kill everything. Actually, there's more, but
this is a video game and not a movie or book so the plot really isn't
that important here (okay, maybe it is in a rpg...this isn't one of
them however)
The Cast: I know I said this isn't a movie, but for those who are not
aware, there are six demented characters to choose from. I've only
played with one (Cap. Hands), and he is a whole lot of fun to
play...the others do look quite interesting...will have to experiment
later.
The Game: Plays alot like gauntlet without the four players at once
feature. A top down view shooter with a lot of blood and enemies who can take
alot of abuse! You can zoom in and out at will though so far, I prefer
a view close to the default setting. The action is fairly non-stop and
you can trust me that this is NO bore fest...not at all! I don't know
how many missions there are (I THINK 15 but don't worry, they are quite
large....kinda reminded me of BUG! sized, or perhaps, some of the
larger DOOM levels).
A bad point:
The automap. Can only display surrounding area....no way (that I
know of anyway) to expand to see the entire level. Also, areas that
you have not explored are shown on the map. Kinda takes the "secret"
out of the secret areas. BTW: secret areas seem to be walls that appear
to be cracked and falling apart...these can be blown open to revel
passages to other areas usually containing nifty power-ups and more
than a few bad guys (cool! more things to Kill!)
Bottom line: If you like even the concept of this game, I highly
recomend you go out and buy it NOW! My guess is that many stores will
be sold out of initial shippments quite quickly! There are a couple of
bad points which I've stated but they are really quite minor compared
to the overall picture. For those of you who likes grades: A-
Breakdown:
Graphcis: Excellent
Sound Fx: Excellent as well. You may however want to turn the music
down just a hair to hear them a little better
Music: A deep basey techo sort of soundtrack that works flawlessly!
Control: Dead ON! Also, the pad can be configured to anything that
works best for you (personally, I like the automap and strafe buttons
reversed from the default.)
Save Feature: Yep! You can save after each level. No passwords tho.
Just a memory card option. But, according to the back of the box,
it only requires one card slot.
Fun Factor: Way Way Way off the scale!
Enjoy!
Dave
