MDK REVIEW
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MDK. I waited a long, long time for this one to come out for the Playstation.
I remember thinking about how cool it would be to use such innovative gadgets
like Sniper Helmets to blow off my enemies ear from 5 miles away, or using the
Worlds Smallest Nuclear Bomb to rip dozens off baddies to shreds. Ah yes, life
would be grand when MDK was finally in my hands. Or so I thought.

GRAPHICS 2.5/5
--------------
To me, graphics are important. Many people would disagree, boasting that
gameplay is the thing, well, I believe to have a awesome game you have to have
both (not to mention sounds, music, etc ..). MDK was a major letdown to me in
the visuals department. Your character is certainly not smooth, not in how
he looks or how he moves. He's way too grainy for me, and not only that, but
it seems they cut out alot of his animations. In other words, he looks like
shit.

The bad guys look decent I guess. I was certainly expecting more than a bunch
of robots who make fun of you. Remember how Shiny would boast "You can blow
off an enemies ear from a mile away!"? You can't. You can shoot their leg, and
I think their arm, although I really don't care. You can interact more with
the enemies in Goldeneye than in this, and that's just sad.

The environments are crap. I was not impressed at all. They were so proud
about how large they were, well, they're not that big and they suck.

SOUND 2.5/5
-----------
Nothing special, a conversion from the PC. If you've played the PC, you'll
know what it sounds like, if not, just picture this: Robots making robotic
screaming noises, and generic gunshot sounds.

The music is decent, kind of fits the mood. It is of good quality, I'll give
it that. It doesn't really do anything to the atmosphere of the game, it's
just kind of there.

GAMEPLAY 2/5
------------
I played this game for 5 levels. Never once was I impressed at anything it
did, so that doesn't say much. I will say the control is moderatly good. Your
character slides a bit, but don't expect anything to be perfect in this game.

There are some fun parts, however (nothing that hasn't been seen before, mind
you) .. for example: You can take control of some of the bad guys, you can use
a pretty neat parachute to glide to safety, and that's about all that
interested me.

OVERALL 2.5/5
-------------
MDK is a letdown. Plain and simple. Everyone prophesied it would be excellent
and it wasn't. I wouldn't recommend renting it, as you will most likely play
it once and not touch it again, and feel ripped off about paying three bucks
for fifteen minutes of entertainment. As for buying it .. if you buy this game
you are sending the message to game companies that you will gladly pay them
50 bucks for un-polished, un-fun horrors like this. And they'll keep making
them. Now that's a nightmare.
