NFL Quarterback Club '97
PlayStation Review from the Net

QB Club '97 by Akklaim for both the Sega Saturn & Sony Playstation

Review by Timmer

Background:

I purchased the PSX version of the game, a friend of mine purchased
the Saturn version. I have played 5 games so far on the PSX, and 3 on
the Saturn, I will review both, make notes where I think a major enogh
difference warrants it.

INTRO: Same on both, PSX has a little better FMV. However, Saturn
version announces the QB names as they scroll by , the PSX version
does not.

Options: Same for both.
- 4 stadiums
- 5 camera views or create your own
- Preseason, Reg Season, Pro Bowl, Playoff & Superbowl
- Grunts, taunts, crowd chants
- Full season stats
- can play historic situations (as in previous QB Club games)
- 500 plays

Graphics: Pixelated! The players are bigger, it's as if they zoomed
in just about 10% or so from previous games, the players are bigger,
but pixelated. It does NOT detract from gameplay though.
I like the graphics, don't get me wrong, just takes a quarter to get
used to.

Sound: Standard grunts, etc.. No announcer on the PSX version.
Announcer meaning "1st down" , "Incomplete", "end of first quarter"
etc.... Saturn version has that simple announcer.

Playability

This game has a LOT in it. A lot of plays, a lot of possibilities. You
can lateral at any time. Dangerous, but cool. Standard controls with
lots of options, dive, juke, sping, stiff-arm, etc....
Sophisticated audible system, standard mechanism of 3 windows to
choose plays. (i.e., 4-3, split-left, etc....

AI

- Not bad. It gives a good game on all-star mode. I have NOT searched
extensively for plays that always work, I do not like that and would
not use them if I found them. I did notice you can complete a lot of
downfield passes, but I am currently playing at the standard
difficulty level, so that may be why.

Gameflow

You can set how fast you want the time to tick off, (normal, fast, turbo).
The development of the play feels right to me. Some will say it is a
tad slow, but I can actually read blocks on running plays , etc...

Misc/Notes

- Solid game, my jaw did not drop out when I plugged these in , but
  they are VERY playable.
- Passing is cool. The letters of the Receiver to throw to down field
are HUGE(cover a nice sized area around each receiver).
- Sacks/Interceptions ratio's are about right.
- Lot's of game stats(have not payed attention to season stat yet)
- There are stats on runs(left, right , middle)
- Passing (0-9, 10-20, etc...) .. Nice detail
- There are a LOT of these GAME stats, these are samples

Overall: I am enjoying the game very much. I do not regret buying it.
I like it better than gameday because it is more polished IMO, and
plays a better/more realistic game with lots of stats.
