Review from the Net

Review of ONE for the SONY PlayStation

What a year the PlayStation is having and it's going to get much better.
First off I must say that I've seen some reviews of this game ONE and
notice that they loved the graphics and levels design, but to hate how
hard the game is. I must say that finally we have a game that's
challenging and FUN to play over and over. The game is an
Action/Shooter/Platform and you must beat each level in order to save.
This is where some of the other reviews lost their patients. If you die
before the end of a level you must start from the beginning when all
your lives are done. For me this is what makes this game so awesome. It
challenges you to learn the levels and to do things different the next
time to win. Now to my review of what this game is an ACTION/SHOOTER
type game.

Story: You awaken in the ruins of a metropolis apartment. Your thoughts
are murky and your memory a blank. Your left arm is now a metallic
monstrosity, a deadly weapon. Wouldn't you be just a little upset if you
woke up one day to find that one of your arms had been replaced with a
cybernetic weapon? Sure you would! Enemies attack you and make you
wonder why and you have nothing but RAGE and must destroy everything
that's in your way. The more RAGE you have the more powerful you become.

Graphics: ONE implements a streaming graphics engine called
"Asynchronous loading" whereby chunks of level data can be seamlessly
linked together. Crash 2 is another game using this streaming engine,
and the results speak for themselves. In effect ONE's futuristic
landscapes just oozing with awesome 3D details. Amazing 3-D worlds with
so many details it's totally will immerse you into the game. The game
uses incredible light sourcing, gorgeous shading, gargantuan polygonal
structures, and a ton of spectacular pyrotechnic amazement. The action
goes wildly bombastic on screen with no frame rate slow down. Wait till
you see the Flame-thrower special weapon in action. You never seen
awesome fire effects until now with ONE. Totally amazing watching
enemies light up with fire flames on them.

Gameplay: Is their Gameplay with all these show-stopping graphics in
ONE? Totally, YES. The action is super intense, the bad-guy flow never
ends, a spectacle of blasting and platforming is un-matched. You have a
RAGE meter that the more you kill the more powerful you become. The
meter goes from Green color to Yellow color to Red color to finally
White color a full all out EnRAGED mode where you become super fast and
fire power is totally awesome. As enemies hit you your meter goes back
down only to go back up if you continue to go insane in destroying
everything. You even have physical attacks like spin kicks and uppercuts
for close foes. Hand-to-hand fighting increases the Rage pumping meter
too. This game is totally fun. While all this action is happening you'll
be jumping platforms and just all out trying to survive. The levels
consist of tunnels, open-air mountains, monorail rides, gigantic rooms,
underwater level, and most amazing the rooftops of a city. These levels
are HUGE too, often requiring 30 minutes to hours to beat. That's a lot
for an Action/Shooter game. There is some exploration for those awesome
special weapons. Boss fights at the end of each level are awesome.

Controls: Are right on precise. Using Analog controller is even more
accurate. You could do jumps, somersaults, strafe, crouch, and dive.
Along with depending what level and what weapons have Lock and fire,
flip, climb, hang, slide, spin, and vicious physical attack combos.
Learning curve is practically none, it's hard from the start. This is
the only complaint some my have, but this is what makes the game worth
keeping. It does get a little easier once you get the hang of things.

Sounds: Sound effects will keep your attention up. Little sound effects
like bad guys in pursuit of your where about constantly talking to each
other as if on a police radio dispatch. Then there's the gunfire and
explosions with thunderous sound effects. Music is awesome pulsating
synth-rock soundtrack that really drives the action along. Turn it up!

Overall: The graphics are awesome, the frame rate is smooth, and the
gameplay is all out fun. The 32-bit action game has finally come. If
you're looking for that CONTRA/COMMANDO type shoot everything, but in
more intense 3D worlds ONE is it. It's my vote for PlayStation and all
systems Game of the Year!
