PGA Tour 96
Review from the Net
I just got PGA '96 last night for the PSX and here is a quick review of the
game.
First, I own both a PSX and a Saturn and have now played PGA '96 and Pebble
Beach golf for each system, respectively. I am a non-biased observer; I have
owned all of the EA golf games for the Genesis and loved them. I then bought
a Saturn and Pebble Beach golf. This game is made by Sega sports and absolutelysucks!! It has "cartoony" backgrounds with digitized players. The graphics
aren't that great (a lot of pixelation) and the playability just isn't there.
After playing PGA tour on my Genesis, I thought that Sega would have an awesome
Saturn version. Wrong!!
PGA '96 for the PSX is a different story, however. The playability of a
true golf game is there. The graphics are considerably better on this version.
The characters and backgrounds look like they belong together and the pixelationis not as bad.
PGA '96 (Playstation) Pebble Beach (Saturn)
# courses: 2 + upgrades 1 with no upgrades
graphics: Awesome! Pretty good.
pixelation: Minimal even close Bad even far away
playability: excellent ok
rating: 9.0 6.5
The bottom line is:
If you like Electronic Arts sports games and the other PGA tour carts,
you will definitely like EA's PGA '96. The same good qualities have
been carried to the PSX. Personally, I have never played a "bad" EA
sports game.
If you like Sega sports titles, there is no reason you shouldn't get
Pebble Beach. I have also played good Sega sports games, but was
disappointed (IMHO) by this latest attempt.
Have fun golfing!
Jim
