Project Overkill
PlayStation Review from the Net

I bought Project Overkill last night at K-B Toys for 44.99 and it is worth every
penny. At first I thought this was just going to be another "Loaded" type shoot 'em up,
but it far exceeds Loaded in gameplay. There are four selectable characters to choose
from, all with different weapons and powerups. The speed seems to be the same for each
character, but the strength between them varies. For example Quogg will probably be the
most played character because he is very strong and has a widespread range of fire with
his gatling gun. The character animation is a bit stiff, but the smooth control makes
up for this with a firing pattern similar to Smash TV or Robotron.
The main objective in the game is to shut down "Project Overkill", which is a
plan that an evil force has to take over planets with force. Your commandos' have the
job of wiping each are clean to proceed to the next one. The levels are very deep with
various upper and lower levels, and many hidden areas with powerups. The death
animations are the most amazing thing about this game. Depending on where you are in
correlation to the enemy many different nasty things will happen to them. Their head
may be blown clean off, or they clutch their stomach and fall to their knees, at which
point if you are quick, you can switch to your hand-to-hand weapon and add to the pain.
I don't think I have even seen all of the death animations yet, there are many!
Another neat little extra is every time you walk over a corpse you will leave a trail of
blood off of your footprints. The enemies vary in size and color depending upon what
kind they are. Tougher enemies are different colors and sizes.
I only have one gripe about this game and it is just nitpicking. The action
does get just a little bit choppy on certain areas, but you have to remember that
everyone you shoot stays on screen and does not flash and disappear. Other than this
little complaint, I would recommend this game to anyone that even remotely liked Loaded
for the PlayStation.
