Project Overkill
PlayStation Review from the Net

Well, I stopped by EB yesterday to pick up Crash and to pre-purchase my
N64. Little did I know that Overkill has just arrived, I forked over the
$40 and eagerly brought it home, hoping that it wouldn't be another Loaded
(which got boring REAL fast). Thankfully, the game kicks ass. In Loaded
(which I feel most inclined to compare it to), when you blew someone away,
the either blew up of just died, sure it was bloody, but NOTHING compared
to Overkill. When you shoot someone in overkill, many things can happen.
I've counted 30 different ways guys can die by the saem weapon! They might
get decapitated, hurled against the wall, disembowled, limbs blown off,
damn that's satisfying! The corpses remain as well so you can easily tell
when you've been to an area before. You can control 4 different characters
who each have their own different weapons. Each character has 4 different
types of weapon. The typical machine gun/gatling gun, a laser type weapon,
a detonating device (like a grenade/land mine), and a homing weapon. You
can also choose between many different missions, making the game not very
linear. If you are inexperienced, you can either go with the easier levels
and werk your way up, or go for the difficult ones, and watch yourself get
you ass whupped. The graphics and animation are wonderful, and the sound
is quite ominous. This is the best Konami game I've ever played (yes,
better than Contra and Castlevania). Even the typical keycard needed to
open doors has been changed, now there are retinal scans as well, so what
do you do? Simply steal an eyeball from one of the corpses. Control is a
bit tricky at first, but once you learn how to shoot diagonally (you push
the 2 buttons) then you can figure it out. The configuration is good too.
Square is attack left, Tri is to shoot up (on the screen), O is to shoot
right, and X is to shoot down. This makes it very easy to strafe,
therefore adding to the gameplay. Now the replay value, well, you may
think that this would get repetetive, but it doesn't! Changes of scenery
are often (whereas in Loaded you were inside a dark prison half the game)
and it makes the game quite refreshing. I'll put it in numbers:

Graphics: 10 (second only to Crash, but the best animation I've ever
seen!)
Sound: 8 (great, but not spectacular)
Gameplay: 9 (an analog pad would help (hint hint Sony?) but this game
controls just fine.
Innovation: 8 (not just another Loaded clone! new ideas make this game
unique)
Replay Value: 9 (I'm unsure of whether of not there are individual
endings, but it'll be a helluva fuin time finding out!)
Overall: 93% (Great game, a must boycott for pacifists!)

Thanx for your time!
