SimCity 2000
Review from the Net

First of all, it's almost exactly like the PC version, which can be
good or bad, depending on your point of view. I find it good because
my computer can't really run it properly as it stands.

There is one majorly cool feature to it -- the drive through. Pick
the drivethrough tool and click on a road, and it'll give you a 3D
virtual tour of your city. Very groovy timekiller.

One thing I have noticed is that the response time of the controller
is a wee bit slow. It takes a good second sometimes for the button to
register. Load times are a pain, too, for the drivethrough and the
opening screen. But then the PSX only has so much memory, and Simcity
takes 4 meg to run on PC, so it's understandable.

I can't seem to get the newspaper stories to pop up like in the PC
version, and it's really starting to irk me because that's one of my
favorite features. Has anyone else make it work?

Also, the PSX version comes with a *ton* of pre-created cities and
scenarios. Great idea for those not patient enough to build up their
cities themselves.

As for the graphics, well, picture Super VGA as presented on an NTSC
screen and there you have it. Not great compared to the PC version,
but, well, duh.

Basically, if you've never played it before, you should rent it
because I guarantee if you have any kind of god complex you'll love
it. It takes some (okay, a lot) of patience to really get a good city
going, but it's a fascinating game to play once you're into it. Plus
you get the satisfaction of watching Toronto burn to the ground if you
so desire. Okay, so that's a Canadian thing probably. :) And if
you've played it on the PC...um, well, there's not really much to
recommend switching to the PSX version. In fact you lose a few little
things (I really hate the big onscreen buttons instead of the city
toolbar, for example) but not enough to hinder the game.

In short, thumbs up from me. But if you have a Pentium and CD-Rom
drive, just buy the Special Edition for the computer. It's cheaper
and has animated advisors.
