Tomb Raider
PlayStation Review from the Net

Here are my thoughts on this incredible(oops, I gave it away) game.
I'll start with the negative points:
-Some graphical glitches. When you are very near a wall, you'll be able
to see right through it or you'll disappear. But who cares?
-As far as I've been there hasn't been non-stop music. That's kind of
weird I think. Usually the only sound is Lara's footsteps or gunshots.
I wonder if this will change?
-hmm...oh yeah... camera angels can be WEIRD! For instance if you are
trying to make a jump, the camera will point at your side, and you won't
be able to tell when to make the jump.(TIP: Use the Look Button to line
up your jump)
Ok, enough of that. On to the positives:
+Huge, Huge game. There are 15 massive levels and the even the early
ones take a long time to complete.
+Great Graphics. Although not as colorful as, say, Mario 64, the
graphics fit the game perfectly. Levels are well detailed and have
great light sourcing. Lara(our heroine) is amazingly fluid. She acts
just like an ordinary person. It's really a sight to behold.
+When there is music, such as for a monumental discovery, or a sign that
you are on the right track, it is awesome. Sometimes I have to stop
what I'm doing to focus on the music in the background.(not smart while
you are fighting a grizzly bear)
+The amount of control you have over Lara is unprecedented. She can
jump, flip, bounce off walls, grab onto ledges, walk, run, draw her guns
in a single motion. And you can combine these tasks. Say for instance
you see a wolf. Well, do a backflip and in midair pull out your two
guns and start blasting. By the time you've hit the ground, the wolf
should be dead.
+SWIMMING. This is a blast, and you will die several times while
swimming, because you are so amazed that you just swim all over the
place, not noticing your air supply is going, going, GONE.
+Overall funness. This game does not get boring. Be wary though, the
first level will annoy you to the point of boredom, but then the second
level hits and BLAM, you're back in the game. Don't give up in the
first level. See it out. Have some fun. Learn the moves.
+Excellent FMV. I know, I know... who cares about FMV. Well I do, and
in this case it is well done, and makes this action adventure game have
a plot. The rendered scenes are done in letterbox, which adds to its
movie-like quality.
Look. What else can I say? This is my vote for game of the year(I
liked it better than Resident Evil and Super Mario 64). I guarantee
you'll have a blast while playing it. Just go out and buy it please!!!
Here is my wrap-up:
Graphics: 9.5/10 ( Not a 10 because of minor graphical glitches)
Music+Sound: 8.5/10 (What music is there is great, but not much of it.
Sound effects are fine)
Control: 10/10 (Once you get used to it, the control is perfect. You
can control everything. I love it)
Gameplay: 10/10 (Jolly good fun)
Longetivity: 9.5/10 (With 15 massive levels spanning four different
worlds, you won't finish this anytime soon. And there are secrets
galore to discover as well)
Innovativeness: 9/10 ( It is innovative in that it is a game with great
graphics and sound that is actually fun. Ha! No seriously; Tomb Raiders
is like Resident Evil with a revolving camera, cooler scenery, better
voices and control. It is like Super Mario 64 with an appealing lead
character and a more mature subject matter.)
So what am I getting at? Overall: 10/10; A; 99.5%; ***** (out of *****)
Enough. I'm going to play.
