Tomb Raider 2
Review from the Net

Tomb Raider 2
Sony Playstation
Action/Adventure
1 player
Tomb Raider 2 is was of the most anticipated of 1997. I was waiting for it
since the first version and finally got it. It is basically the first game
but much improved.
Graphics 9/10
The graphics in Tomb Raider 2 are slightly better than the first. A major
difference is the addition of flares. They showcase some amazing light-
sourcing that help you in your journey. Also, Lara Croft can now climb. The
enviroments are beautifully done. There is ice, water, bricks, and more.
Everything in TR2 is polygonal, which is a major plus. Also, the rendered
cinemas are incredible. Upon seeing TR2's intro, your jaw will drop. It's
indescribeable. Other than the things mentioned above, everything is pretty
much the same as the first Tomb Raider. To most people, this is certainly a
good thing.
Sound 9/10:
The music in TR2 is very good. While it usually only comes on a important
parts of the game, what's there is great. There is a sense of urgency when
the music comes on. It makes you feel like something big is coming up. Also,
the sound effects are also great. Each gun has a different sound. Lara
grunts when neccessary. She speaks in many different parts of the game. I
think Lara has a new voice, but I'm not quite sure(could anyone confirm
this?). Animals roars are good, too. Also, when you grab onto something, it
makes a noise. Overall, the sound is better in TR2 than in Tomb Raider 1.
The music is the difference.
Control 10/10:
Lara is very versatile. She can climb, jump, walk, run, shoot, the list goes
on and on. Once you've got the control down, the possibilities are nearly
endless. There are many different guns for Lara to shoot. I have one
complaint, but it's a big one: no dual analog control support. After awhile,
the D-pad can hurt your thumb. One new addition to Lara's moves is the
ability to climb. To conclude, the control is a lot like the control in Tomb
Raider 1 with a few additions.
Gameplay 10/10:
Boy, this is one helluva game. According to a few sources, this beats out
FFVII for game of the year. Now that's saying somthing. The gameplay is the
same as TR1 but now Lara can climb. She can also now use flares which show
amazing lighting effects. They can also show secret passages. There are many
new enemies in TR2 such as tigers and many, many human opponents. Also, the
T-Rex returns. Yes, he's still tough.
The game isn't easy by any means. There are 16 hard levels of gaming
goodness. Don't expect to beat this one in a few days. Now there are 3
secrets in each stage called dragons. I'm not sure what happens if you get
all of them, but the manual says that only the best tomb raiders can aquire
them all... Also worth mentioning is Lara's mansion. You can now explore the
whole thing. She evn has a hedge maze. Lastly, I'd say that if you liked the
first Tomb Raider, you'll love this one.
Overall 10/10:
Lara Croft returns and is better than ever. She now has more moves. While
the game is hard, every minute is worth it. With some practice, you'll handle
this game like a breeze. TR2 is one game that every PSX owner should have.
