PlayStation Demo Disks

The Sony Playstation Demo Disc List version 1.3
********************************************************************************

This is a list of all the demo discs that have been released as of 9/11/97.

List was last revised on [9/11/97]

List compiled by Jose Arellano (integer@pacbell.net). Please email me if
you have any questions, corrections, or codes...

Notes:
€ I'm toying with a new format for this list. If anyone has any ideas or
wants to help me make up a new format, please let me know!

€ Regaring the codes, I have used the following conventions:

"C" to signify the CIRCLE button.
"S" to signify the SQUARE button.
"T" to signify the TRIANGLE button.
"X" to signify the EX button (duh!).
"L1" to signify the TOP LEFT SHOULDER Button.
"R1" to signify the TOP RIGHT SHOULDER Button.
"L2" to signify the BOTTOM LEFT SHOULDER Button.
"R2" to signify the BOTTOM RIGHT SHOULDER Button.

Commas "," signify consecutive button presses.
For example, "C,C,T" means press press CIRCLE, CIRCLE and TRIANGLE.

Brackets "[]" signify that a button is to remained pressed.
For example, "[R1+L1],S" means press SQUARE while holding R1 and R2.

€ There have been demo discs released in other territories (ie Europe
and Asia) but I do not have any info regarding these discs (sorry!).
However, if you want to send me this info, I'd be happy to compile it. =)

€ The following demo discs lockup the 5501 model of the US Playstation:

      Playstation Picks (released 11/96)
      CD Sampler Pack Vol3.0
      CD Sampler Pack Vol3.5
      Playstation Underground Number 1

The lockup occurs when the demo disc tries to access the main menu after
playing a game or viewing a FMV. Sony acknowledges the problem with the
CD Sampler Pack Vol3.5 and promises to send all users with this issue a
new disc with a correction for this problem. Please email me if you
have any more info about this.

     UPDATE:

On 9/1/97, Sony sent me a new version of the v3.5 disc that had corrected
the lockup probelm with the 5501 model Playstation. I have yet to try out
that disc but I will update this list when I have more info. Also, I've
spoken to several people at Sony about the other discs and I've gotten
different responses. Some Sony techs have told me that this wasn't a
problem while other techs have noted the problem but don't know what
Sony intend to do about them.

SECTION 2: OTHER RELEASED DEMO DISCS
********************************************************************************
€ OTHER DEMO DISCs

Here's a list of other demo discs that have been released via channels other
than Sony:

€ Rayman (released 1/96)
(This sold via retail outlets for $5.99)

€ Iron & Blood (released ???)
(included with Next Generation issue ?)

€ Burning Road (released ???)
  (Next Generation subscriber freebie ?)

€ Final Fantasy 7 demo (two versions available)
(included with Tobal #1, PSX Underground #2).

Also, according to some online reports, Square was supposed to
release 1 million copies of the Final Fantasy 7 demo via gaming mags.
They never did. I guess they decided that including the demo in the
PSX Underground #2 disc was sufficient.

€ Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (Given out at 1997 E3)

This version is almost identical to the version found the PSX Underground #1
except the graphics and sound effects seem slightly improved.

********************************************************************************
SECTION 3: MISC DEMO DISC INFO & RUMOURS
********************************************************************************

This is section is for miscellaneous demo disc info anf rumours.

€ Some of the games on demo disc support Sony's 'Rumble' feature. This feature
is similar to Nintendo's Jolt Pack and can only be found in the import Sony
Dual Analog Joystick. The following games support this 'Rumble' feature:

    - MDK on the Jampack Vol1 disc.
    - Porsche Challenge on the Playstation Underground Number 2 disc.

€ I've heard of several poeple comment on a new Playstation magazine that will
include a playable demo disc with every issue. While this is common in the
UK, we have yet to see something like this in the US. If you have any further
info about this, please email me.

€ There's been word of a Jampack Vol2 disc to be released soon. I do not have a
release date nor a list of what's going to be on it. I'm assuming that Sony
will release this disc soon prior to the XMAS season to entice new gamers with
the new games coming out this fall.

********************************************************************************
