Believe it or not, but it's been 3 years since Wipeout XL! And believe it or not, it is still my favorite PS game! Thus you can probably understand my excitement for Wipeout 3. For a while I feared we would have to wait for the PlayStation 2 to play this, but we're in luck, it's on its way!!
It will feature 8 new tracks, 5 teams and 5 all-new weapons. (Barrier: Just that across the track that only you can oass through. Napalm: Sets your engine tail on fire. Cloak: Well, guess... Reflector: Guess that, too. Drain weapon: Your enemies, of course.) It'll play faster than ever in a higher resolution, with the play mechanics tuned just a tad (to the better, if that's even possible). It will have a split-screen 2-player mode (vertical or horizontal). (Although I list it as linkable, that has not been confirmed.) Some of the tracks are specially made for high speed racing!! Other features: A proximity detector for rear-attacks. Rear-view for the expert racer, Hyperthrust - extra speed at energy cost, team colored vapour trails and visual air brakes.
A feature sure to be appreciated by widescreen TV owners is the "True Widescreen" mode! Hey hey!! Tournament, Challenge and Eliminator modes are included. And, of course, expect a cool setup for the Dual Shock Controller. One of the keys to the success of both its prequels, was the excellent music. How does Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Propellerheads, Orbital, Paul Van Dyk and 5 tracks from Sasha sound? I CAN'T WAIT!!!! No, not just random tracks picked for this title, but stuff finely tuned to fit the mood of the game. Drool! This title should keep us happy until Wipeout 4(?) on the PlayStation 2.....
